New Phone? No Problem! Easy Beginner’s Guide to Using Android or iPhone

Mar 5, 2026 | Support

Just got a shiny new Android or iPhone and feeling a little overwhelmed? Don’t worry — you’re not alone! Whether you’re team Samsung/Google or team Apple, here’s a super simple, step-by-step “how-to” that will have you feeling like a pro in no time.

  1. First 10 Minutes – Get It Ready

For both Android & iPhone:

  • Turn it on and follow the setup wizard (it’s actually fun!).
  • Connect to Wi-Fi right away.
  • Sign in with your Google account (Android) or Apple ID (iPhone). This magically brings over your contacts, photos, and apps from your old phone!

Android extra tip: During setup, tap “Copy apps & data” and pick your old phone or backup. iPhone extra tip: Hold your old iPhone near the new one for “Quick Start” magic.

  1. Make It Feel Like YOURS
  • Home screen: Long-press an empty spot → drag apps around, create folders, or change wallpaper. Android lovers: You can even add widgets (weather, calendar, etc.)! iPhone fans: Hold the screen → tap the + in the top-left for widgets.
  • Dark mode: Settings → Display (Android) or Display & Brightness (iPhone) → turn on Dark Mode. Your eyes will thank you at night.
  • App Library/Organizer: Android has the app drawer at the bottom. iPhone? Swipe all the way left for the App Library.
  1. Stay Safe & Secure (Super Important!)
  • Set up a strong passcode or Face ID / Fingerprint right now.
  • Turn on automatic updates: Settings → System (Android) or General → Software Update (iPhone).
  • Enable Find My Device (Android) or Find My iPhone so you can locate it if it ever goes missing.
  1. Cool Everyday Tricks
  • Take a screenshot: Android → Power + Volume Down. iPhone → Side button + Volume Up.
  • Voice typing: Tap the microphone on your keyboard and just talk!
  • Split screen/multitasking: Android is built for it — long-press an app. iPhone has Picture-in-Picture for videos.

Pro move: Back up your photos automatically! → Android: Google Photos app → turn on Backup → iPhone: Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Photos → iCloud Photos

Still stuck? Phone acting weird? Apps not working? Battery draining too fast?
